Memorial tour to Warsaw: Memories of the Warsaw uprising

memory trip to the Warsaw uprising in partner city

A significant historical event is now 80 years ago: the Warsaw uprising of the Polish home army against the German occupiers. In Treptow-Köpenick, more precisely in Adlershof, an impressive wall painting was recently unveiled that is reminiscent of this important moment.

In order to take up the Warsaw on the occasion of these memory celebrations, the German-Polish society organized a trip to Warsaw. Among the participants were also several citizens from Treptow-Köpenick who set off to visit various memorials such as the uprising museum, cemeteries and the large monument for the Warsaw uprising.

During their trip, the visitors were particularly impressed by the central commemoration on the eve of August 1st and the memorial events in the twin city of Treptow-Köpenick, Warsaw Mocotów, on the actual day of commemoration. The Berlin group had the moving task of paying their honor to the victims of the uprising in Mokotów by lying down a wreath.

In addition to the in-depth understanding of Polish and German-Polish history, another focus of the trip was to strengthen the close relationships with the twin city. For this purpose, the participants visited the Dorożkarnia cultural club, which presented its outstanding socio -cultural work and thus ensured another approach.

The group was deeply impressed by the eventful days and the warm encounters. The initial ideas for future cooperation have already been discussed, because everyone agreed: this was by no means the last visit to Warsaw and in the partner district of Warsaw-Mokotów.
