Memory of the pogrom night: Events in Treptow-Köpenick

On November 9, 1938, there is a dark chapter in history - the state -orchestrated pogrom against Jewish life in Germany. In Treptow and Köpenick, countless shops were brutally devastated and looted by Jewish citizens. While synagogues opened in flames across Germany, the synagogue in Köpenick remained intact because it was closely trapped between houses. But that did not mean that she was spared: the SA looted it mercilessly and threw holy objects into the Spree. A shocking relic of these actions, a tired Thora sign, is now exhibited in the permanent exhibition of the Jewish Museum.

November 9th is not just a date, but a memorial that reminds us that we must never forget the horrors of the past. In Treptow-Köpenick, several moving memorial events take place on this occasion to commemorate all victims and to keep their stories alive.
