Specialist day in Treptow-Köpenick: Together against youthful right-wing extremism!
Müggelschlößchenweg, Berlin, Deutschland - On May 21, 2025, a specialist day for the prevention of right-wing extremism in youth social work took place, organized by several institutions, including the regional coordination of the youth welfare office and the Center for Democracy Treptow-Köpenick. The event was carried out in the children's and youth leisure facility "Dukfel" and in the Müggelschlößchenweg retirement home in the Allende district. The reason for this meeting was the increasing number of right -wing extremists graffiti, stickers and flyers in the district. In addition, reports on the targeted address of young people through neo-Nazi groups in schools and on social media, such as Tiktok, were known.
The specialist day not only offered an overview of the current situation and the actors in right -wing extremism, but also the opportunity to learn practical strategies for action. Four workshops covered various aspects of the topic:
- right -wing extremism in martial arts
- right -wing extremism and social media
- argumentation training based on case studies
- right-wing extremism prevention in social work
growing challenges in youth work
Youth work today faces greater challenges, since the forms of expression of right -wing extremist ideologies have further differentiated in youth cultures. An analysis shows that the so -called "identity movement" and other groups, such as "autonomous nationalists" and right -wing extremists hip -hop, specifically address young people, whereby the media and pop culture serve as platforms. These developments are considered a serious threat to young people and social integration.
The action strategies in prevention work must always be expanded in order to keep up with these dynamic changes. This includes the promotion of democratic values and the prevention of right -wing extremists, which are often linked to nationalism, racism and other discriminatory attitudes. Reality is alarming: A current study shows that 8% of the population represent a right -wing extremist world view and almost a third wishes for an authoritarian form of government.
In the workshops of the specialist day, participants showed the urgency of the exchange. A spokeswoman emphasized that right -wing extremism penetrates through the isolation of those affected and that the key to combating is in contact and cooperation in order to preserve a democratic culture.
Practice -oriented approaches and political consensus
The recognition and classification of right -wing extremist -oriented young people has become more complex. The specialists must be able to distinguish between sympathizers, fellow runners and activists and to address challengers accordingly. Exemplary developments from practice show that social workers have to look for proactive approaches in order to achieve young people who move in right -wing extremist scenes. The combination of socially spatial democracy promotion and direct prevention work is the same.
The need for a political consensus in youth work is evident to set clear normative goals: to guarantee protection against right -wing extremist influences and the promotion of democratic values. A user order in institutions to prevent right-wing extremist activities already shows the first positive effects.

These networking approaches are crucial because they enable specialists to exchange their experiences and to react collectively to the challenges of right -wing extremism.
Overall, the specialist day illustrates the importance of prevention work and the urgent need for action in order to protect the social stability and the rights and freedoms of all social members.
