Memory of the Braune Straße of Berlin: The history of Brückenstraße in Schöneweide

Memory of the Braune Straße of Berlin: The history of Brückenstraße in Schöneweide

On Friday, March 22, 2024, an event with the title "Die Braune Straße in Berlin-Review of the fight against neo-Nazi structures in Schönweide" will take place from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Elisabeth schools in Berlin. The Brückenstraße in Schöneweide was known for a long time as a meeting point for the neo-Nazi scene, with popular restaurants such as the Henker pub and the Hexogen security shop. In 2014, committed players from Treptow-Köpenick and Berlin managed not to extend the commercial agencies of these businesses, which led to their closure.

The event should offer a review of this time and discuss how the neo -Nazis managed to make Schöneweide their action room. It is also talked about how the anti -fascist resistance was organized and what successes and failures there were. The aftermath of neo -Nazi activities in Schöneweide should also be examined, as well as the question of what can be learned from these fights for current challenges such as everyday racism, anti -Semitism and the rise of right -wing extremists.

The event is organized by the Center for Democracy and the Partnership for Democracy Schöneweide and is part of a series of events on historical-political educational work in Treptow-Köpenick and the international weeks against racism. There will be an introduction by the organizers and the headmaster of the Elisabeth schools, followed by an input lecture by Dr. Patrice G. Poutrus, a historian and resident.

In addition to Poutrus, Kati Becker from Berliner Register, Ellen dealer from BDA Treptow and Samuel Signer from the network for democracy and courage are also participating in the subsequent discussion. The event is free and the rooms of the Elisabeth schools are accessible. It is pointed out that people who belong to right -wing parties or organizations or are known through racist statements can be excluded from the event.
