Discover your inner diversity: exhibition opens in Kungerkiez!
In October 2025, the Kungerkiez gallery will become the platform for an exciting new exhibition entitled “In the Mirror of Your Face”. This explores themes of identity and self through the lens of abstract art in various forms and styles. The exhibition will be on view from October 4th to 25th, 2025, with an opening on the first evening at 7 p.m. and a finissage on October 25th at the same time. Admission will be free, and opening times are Thursday to Sunday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., like berlin.de reported.
Different materials, media and styles are shown, including painting, photography and literary fragments. Particularly noteworthy are the emotional and soulful aspects that are expressed through the use of colors and abstraction. Photographic works even offer unusual perspectives on well-known topics. The artist Melina Amandowitz, who has lived in the Kungerkiez since 2020 and studies art history, brings her personal perspective to the exhibition, which will develop organically during construction, rather than a classic individual hanging.
Space for intimacy and creativity
The presentation of the works is supported by the creation of collages and clusters, which promotes an intimate atmosphere and allows visitors to engage more closely with the themes. The Kungerkiez as an exhibition venue not only serves as a gallery, but also as a district center that makes art accessible and designed in an integrative manner. Here art is experienced as part of everyday life.
Further information about the vernissage and finissage can be found on the artist's personal website at www.melina-amandowitz.de or via her email address melina.amandowitz@gmail.com. You can also contact the gallery at galerie@kungerkiez.de.
Abstract art in focus
Parallel to Amandowitz's exhibition, there are a variety of events in other parts of Germany that are also dedicated to abstract art. The exhibition “La Pedrera” in the art museum shows works by well-known sculptors such as Hans Arp and Louise Bourgeois until February 2, 2025, while the exhibition “InformELLE” in the Kunsthalle Schweinfurt deals with female artists from the 1950s and 60s and runs until June 22, 2025. This presents around 86 works by 14 painters and two sculptors and addresses the artistic development opportunities of this time, such as museum-re.de reported.
A special exhibition “Informal Female Artists of the 1950s/60s” will take place in the Emil Schumacher Museum from August 31, 2025 to January 11, 2026. The aim of this presentation is to expand the art historical canon to include overlooked positions by women artists. Around 80 works by 14 painters and 2 sculptors are shown here to provide a new look at the Informel, as on ruhrkunstmuseen.com is to be read.
The connections between these exhibitions and Amandowitz's art shown in Berlin are clear: a platform is created to explore the themes of identity, emotion and the role of women in art through different artistic approaches. The coming months therefore promise exciting impulses in the world of abstract art both locally and nationally.
