Honoring the Warsaw Upsand: Young people reveal mural in Berlin
A mural dedicated to the Warsaw Uprising will be officially inaugurated and presented on July 8, 2024 at 4:30 p.m. in front of the youth welfare office of the Treptow-Köpenick district in Berlin. The mural is the result of the cooperation between young people from Poland and Germany as part of the “Beyond Walls, Bridging History - beyond the walls, connecting stories” under the direction of the artist Maria Michoń. The event is visited by the district mayor of Treptow-Köpenick, Oliver Igel, the son of an insurgent, Piotr Ostrowski, and the Warsaw artist Maria Michoń.
The mural, created by the young people with the support of Dariusz Paczkowski from Warsaw, marks the beginning of a partnership between the Warsaw district of Mokotów and the Berlin district of Treptow-Köpenick. This is part of the #63Tage campaign on the 80th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising. The next steps of the project provide for an exhibition of works by young people who will travel through Berlin.
Among the partners and organizers of the project are the German-Polish Society Berlin e. V., the Foundation for German-Polish Cooperation, the Konrad-Adenauer Foundation Warsaw, the Sanddorf Foundation, the Senate Chancellery of the Governing Mayor of Berlin and other organizations and institutions.
The project is supported by the message of the Republic of Poland in Berlin and the message of the Federal Republic of Germany in Warsaw. For further information and contact, Anita Baranowska-Koch from the German-Polish Society of Berlin at ABK@DPGBerlin.de or by phone can be reached at +49 176 45982773.
