Biological diversity in the city green: specialist event attracts over 130 participants
The specialist event "More biodiversity with domestic wild plants" took place on March 4, 2024 as part of the project "Thousands of Gardens - Thousands of Species". Over 130 participants from various areas took part in the event, which was made by the German Gartenbau Society 1822 e. V. was aligned. The speakers discussed the importance of domestic wild plants in the city green for biodiversity and ecological balance. The campaign "Thousands of Gardens - Thousands of Species" presented opportunities for municipalities, companies and hobby gardeners to actively participate in promoting the diversity of local plants.
In Großbeeren, the event took place in the teaching and experimental institution for horticulture and arboristics (LVGA) e.V., which has been offering a course for gardeners since last year, which targeted the promotion of biodiversity. The Environment and Nature Conservation Office Treptow-Köpenick took part in the event to underline the district's commitment to promoting biological diversity in the city green. Iris Bechtold, head of the environmental and nature conservation authority in Treptow-Köpenick, emphasized the importance of the commitment of all actors to achieve positive effects on the environment.
The district office Treptow-Köpenick has been a member of the alliance "Municipalities for Biological Diversity" since February 2024, which enables the exchange of proven practices and the implementation of sustainable measures to promote nature in the district. District City Councilor Dr. Claudia Leistner emphasized the importance of such initiatives and emphasized that green spaces are not only relaxation locations, but also important habitats for numerous animal and plant species.
The efforts of the Treptow-Köpenick district office to promote biological diversity are an important contribution to the protection of the environment and to strengthen biodiversity in the region. Cooperation with other municipalities and organizations as well as active participation in events such as the specialist event "More biodiversity with domestic wild plants" help to establish sustainable measures to protect nature.
