Tree tour in Treptower Park: On the way with the tree controls

Next Thursday, April 25, 2024, a special event will take place in Treptower Park on the occasion of the day of the tree. The district office invites interested parties to tree tours, in which the tree inspectors of the street and green area office present their work and explain how they control the trees in the district. This event is to take place for the first time and be offered and expanded annually in the future.

District Councilor Dr. Claudia Leistner, head of the urban development department, streets, green spaces and the environment, emphasizes the importance of this event. It emphasizes that the tree tours offer a way to experience the natural beauty of the city and at the same time convey knowledge about the ecological meaning and the cultural value of the trees. There are often misunderstandings and questions on the part of the citizens regarding the care and control of the trees. The employees of the street and green space office are committed to maintaining the green and the trees in the district every day. Therefore, district councilor Leistner is pleased that the citizens have the opportunity to see the work of the employees on the day of the tree and cordially invite them to take part in the tree tours.

A registration is required for participation in the tree tours because the group sizes are limited. Registration can be made online via a link provided. People without internet access have the opportunity to register by phone at the contact point for citizen participation.

The event is intended to strengthen the awareness of the importance of the trees in the city and to deepen the understanding of the work of the tree inspectors. It is planned to further expand the tree tours in the coming years and thus make a contribution to environmental education and environmental protection.

In order to give the reader an overview of the different tree species and their ecological importance, you will find a table below with information on selected tree species that often occur in the region:

| Tree species | Ecological meaning |
| ————— | —————————————————- | | Oak | Important habitat for numerous animal and plant species |
| Birch | Air cleaning through pollen filtering |
| Ahorn | Offers protection against heat and sunlight |
| Chestnut | Food source for birds and insects |
| Linde | Popular with bees for honey production |

This information should help to raise awareness of the diversity and meaning of the trees in the city and to give readers an insight into the ecological function of the trees.
