Information about the German judiciary: New exhibition in the Johannisthal gallery

A look at German prisons - so close and yet so far! On Friday, October 11, 2024, the Johannisthal gallery opens its doors for the sensational exhibition “Information. A look at German correctional facilities”. Here visitors can admire the impressive photographs of Michael Belhadi and Michel Pasinski, who documented the mysterious worlds behind the high prison walls in a five -year project. This unique collection shows us what happens inside - and without intrusive side effects.

With pictures from a total of twelve German prisons-including renowned facilities such as Bautzen, Berlin-Moabit, Düsseldorf and Stuttgart-Stammheim-the photographers take us into an otherwise hidden reality. At every glance, silence and loneliness shape the photographs that reveal the often grotesque but also thoughtful facets of the correctional facilities. Who would have thought that these deserted recordings could learn so much about everyday prison life? Here it becomes clear how the inmates live, work and, last but not least, communicate with the outside world.

an impressive review

The exhibition is the second big highlight of the project and follows a illustrated book published in 2018 that already caused a sensation. Marco Brauchmann, district councilor for further training, school, culture and sport, emphasizes the importance of this visual dialogue about social responsibility for people in prison. What an urgent topic in today's world!

Be there when the light is thrown onto this locked world! At the opening not only Bredge, but also Milena Mercer, the head of the municipal galleries Treptow-Köpenick speak. And that's not all: On Saturday, November 2nd, 2024, there will be an exciting dialogical tour with photographer Michael Belhadi, the former prisoner Murat A. and Mercer. These conversations offer the rare opportunity to hear directly from the perspective of people who have experienced the prison from the inside.

supporting program and film highlight

On Friday, January 17, 2025, it will be really exciting - the gallery shows in cooperation with Tatort Zukunft e. V. The premiere demonstration of your documentary “Legal protection in prison”.
