Alfred-Randt-Straße in Treptow-Köpenick: Refugee accommodation is closed

The shared accommodation for refugees in Alfred-Randt-Straße in Treptow-Köpenick will be closed on June 30, as the State Office for Refugee Affairs announced. After ten years of use, the property is returned to the district to make room for a school supplement building and a sports area. Around 360 refugees, mainly from Ukraine, who are currently living in the accommodation, are laid in follow -up accommodations, partly temporarily in the Tegel arrival center.

The accommodation, which was opened in 2014 as Berlin's first residential container village, was originally supposed to exist until 2019. Due to the ongoing demand, the approval for the company was extended beyond 2019. Now the accommodation is finally closed to make room for educational institutions and sports facilities.

The closure of the accommodation raises questions regarding the accommodation and care of the refugees who are affected by this change. It is important to ensure that adequate alternative accommodations and support are provided to make the transition for the residents as smoothly as possible.

Historically, the accommodation and support of refugees in Berlin is a continuous process that has developed over the years. The closure of the accommodation on Alfred-Randt-Straße is another chapter in this story and raises questions about long-term solutions for the accommodation of refugees in the city.

In the following table, information on the shared accommodation on Alfred-Randt-Straße and the planned closure is shown:

| Location | Alfred-Randt-Straße, Treptow-Köpenick |
| Number of residents | Around 360 refugees |
| Main country of origin of the residents | Ukraine |
| Opening year | 2014 |
| Planned date of closure | June 30 |
