70 years ago, the popular uprising of June 17, 1953 shook the SED regime in the GDR. More than a million people in over 700 cities of the GDR took part in strikes and protests and demanded free elections, freedom of expression, the resignation of the government and reunification of Germany. The uprising was put down bloody. He only found his fulfillment in the peaceful revolution in 1989.
On the occasion of the 70th anniversary, an exhibition under the title, "City for emergency! -June 17, 1953 in Treptow and Köpenick ”and shown at the location of the Volkshochschule Treptow-Köpenick in Baumschulenweg.
