Tierpark Berlin celebrates 70 years of animal love and species protection!

On November 30, 2024, the Berlin-Friedrichsfelde zoo will be recognized 70 years ago on the occasion of the symbolic laying stone. The largest landscape animal park in Europe extends over 160 hectares and is known for its impressive variety: Almost 7,800 animals from 632 species lived here at the end of 2023. District Mayor Martin Schaefer (CDU) emphasized that the zoo is not only a tourist attraction, but is also valued by the citizens of Lichtenberg. In recent years, numerous enclosures have been modernized and more animal-friendly, which has brought the international reputation in the area of species protection, according to Schaefer, such as Wikipedia reported.

The development of the zoo

In 1963, the Alfred Brehm Haus opened the largest animal house in the world, which is still considered one of the main attractions. The extraordinary design makes the park a special experience that goes beyond pure animal observation. Many enclosures are designed in such a way that they enable a natural way of life of the animals, which is supported by innovative construction methods and extensive plantings. The zoo offers different habitats that are adapted to different geographical zones. In its history, the Berlin Tierpark made important contributions to species protection, including the breeding of endangered species such as the African elephant and the beard vulture, and therefore remains an important actor in ecological balance to a better understanding of biodiversity and nature conservation.
