Wine friendship: Tempelhof-Schöneberg and Bad Kreuznach celebrate 60 years!

Bad Kreuznach, Rheinland-Pfalz, Deutschland - The city partnership between Tempelhof-Schöneberg and the Bad Kreuznach, a wine-growing region in the nearby, Rhineland-Palatinate, celebrates its long-standing stock and the associated cultural and economic connections. This partnership, which has existed since 1963, is under the sign of the "Funding Association for the vineyard and the garden work school" and has led to lively cooperation between the two regions. District City Councilor Eva Majewski recently organized a visit by ten representatives of the urban development and facility management department in Bad Kreuznach to further consolidate and support relationships.

A central element of this partnership is the wine, especially the popular “Schöneberg Nahefreund”, which comes from the winegrowers of the partner community. In January, they take care of the vine cut and smaller repairs before the grapes are harvested in autumn and brought to Bad Kreuznach to press. This tradition shows how closely both regions are interwoven and how viticulture promotes the community.

history and developments in viticulture

Since 1992, Schöneberger grapes have been brought to the district of Bad Kreuznach every year after the first delivery laid the foundation for the production of the wine known as the “maiden wine”. These first grapes not only ensured a taste experience, but were also accompanied by bizarre events, such as the theft of a van from which the wine disappeared. Only one bottle of the first year was left in the Bad Kreuznach district administration.

by 2021, the grapes found their way to the Rheingrafenberg wine cooperative in Meddersheim. This cooperative was sold in a turning point in early 2022, and since then the wine -growing school of the State Winging Bad Kreuznach has been expanding the grapes, supported by District Administrator Bettina Dickes. This change in viticulture shows a dynamic adaptation to the circumstances and the constant further development of the cooperation between the partner regions.

viticulture in Rhineland-Palatinate

Rhineland-Palatinate is known as an important wine-growing region, characterized by the "golden six": Ahr, Mittelrhein, Moselle, near, Palatinate and Rheinhessen. These regions are not only famous for their economic importance, but also for the high quality of their wines that are recognized internationally. Special features are the steep slopes and gentle hills that make viticulture unique in this region.

Over 12 percent of the vineyards in Rhineland-Palatinate are ecologically managed, which is above the German average. State politics promotes the preservation and strengthening of powerful, modernly equipped and sustainably economy companies in the wine sector. In addition, service centers for rural areas offer advisory and educational offers for winemakers to support the young generation of winegrowers.

These developments show how closely the tradition of viticulture is connected to the partnership between Tempelhof-Schöneberg and Bad Kreuznach. The efforts of quality and sustainability contribute to strengthening these relationships and enrich the cultural life of both regions.
