Novel logistics concept for Motzener Straße industrial area started
The Motzener Straße company network has introduced a new logistics concept in the industrial area in Berlin-Marienfelde. The concept includes the bundling of general cargo deliveries outside the industrial area at a freight forwarder in the goods distribution center (GVZ) Great berries and the bundled delivery to the recipients in the industrial area. This leads to fewer individual deliveries and empties, since the companies only have to handle their goods acceptance once a day. In addition, the network relies on sustainability by delivering deliveries with an e-truck.
The offer is part of the research project Transfer -Roadmap Urban Logistics (Turlo), which is funded by the Institute for Applied Research (IFAF) Berlin. The first results of the field attempt were made by Prof. Dr. Birte Malzahn and Prof. Dr. Stephan Seeck from the University of Technology and Economy (HTW) Berlin presented.
The goal of the project "Slim Smart Logistics in Marienfelde" is to enable sustainable flows of goods in the urban area and to achieve positive ecological effects, such as reducing transport trips and CO2 emissions. The developed solutions can serve as the basis for the bundling of delivery hits in other commercial areas.
Berlin's traffic senator Manja Schreiner and the district mayor of Tempelhof-Schöneberg Jörn Oltmann have informed themselves about the project on site and expressed their support.
The company Motzener Straße is looking forward to the beginning of this ambitious project and emphasizes the need for further measures for CO2-free neighborhood logistics. The cooperation between the university and the economy is highlighted as positive.
The basis for the project was created by a feasibility study in cooperation with various communities and the company network in 2020. The financing was mainly done by the joint state planning Berlin-Brandenburg, the district of Tempelhof-Schöneberg, the municipality of Großbeeren and the regional management Tempelhof-Schöneberg.
