Neighborhood festival in Schöneberg: Solidarity with Mykolajiw!
On May 24, 2025, the 7th neighborhood festival will be celebrated in the Schöneberg town hall, which takes place from 12:00 to 7:00 p.m. The event is supported by numerous non-profit organizations, associations, volunteers and offices and departments of the Tempelhof-Schöneberg district office. A varied stage program with music, choirs and dance groups will entertain visitors. The presentation of the new solidarity partnership with the Ukrainian city of Mykolajiw, which is signed at 2:00 p.m. by the district mayor Jörn Oltmann and the mayor of Mykolajiw, Oleksandr Syenkevych, will be particularly outstanding.
This event is in direct connection to the friendly meetings that took place last year between representatives of the Tempelhof-Schöneberg and Mykolajiw district. The aim of the partnership is to support Ukraine, in particular through economic cooperation as well as cultural and youth exchange. Tempelhof-Schöneberg already has 14 other partner cities with which an active exchange is maintained. The guests include representatives of other partner cities, including the former mayor of Barnet, Councilor Nagus Narenthira, and the dance group Baltyk from Koszalin.
strengthening the collaboration
The CDU parliamentary group Tempelhof-Schöneberg has actively campaigned for the solidarity partnership. At a meeting of the district assembly on February 19, 2025, the district prescribed Klaus Hackenschmied expressed the wish for an early signing of the agreement. The CDU had wanted an earlier appointment, ideally in March. The partnership is not only seen as a symbol, but as a long -term and sustainable connection with Mykolajiw. Furthermore, a Ukraine flag in front of the town hall is generally required as a positive sign of solidarity.
The consequences of such a city partnership go beyond the symbolic value. The exchange between Ukrainian and German municipalities promotes democracy and the rule of law and has a positive effect on decentralization in Ukraine. The focus is on solutions to challenges in the areas of sustainable urban development, environmental protection and social integration. It is one goal to improve the quality of life in both countries and to support the goals of the Green Deal and EU integration.
funding and support
The number of municipal partnerships between Germany and Ukraine has increased massively in recent years, from 73 to over 170 with the support of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The partnerships develop dynamically and specifically. German municipalities have already sent Ukrainian partners to fire vehicles, electricity generators and aid deliveries. Advice and long -term strategies for reconstruction are also important components of this cooperation.
The upcoming neighborhood festival in Schöneberg not only promises to become a festival of the neighborhood, but also has the potential to consolidate the community and strengthen important international relationships. In line with European unity, the Europa Union Berlin will also be represented with a European tent and have various activities and information offers.
