LUWADUR wins Green Buddy Award: Berlin focuses on sustainability!

On September 9, 2025, district mayor Jörn Oltmann visited the LUWADUR company, which was awarded the renowned Green Buddy Award in the “Production, Services, Crafts” category that same year. This award, which has been awarded by the Tempelhof-Schöneberg district office since 2011, aims to promote companies and initiatives that focus on ecology and sustainability, as Gute Ideas reports.

The mayor's visit served to get to know LUWADUR's innovative solutions better, which contribute to sustainable urban development. LUWADUR is particularly known for its open-pored surface systems, which reduce soil sealing and promote urban greenery. These systems offer long-lasting, barrier-free and versatile solutions in path and road construction.

Innovations for the urban future

LUWADUR's contribution to Berlin's ecological and social sustainability is significant. The company has already implemented successful projects in care facilities, schoolyards and historic preservation areas that are known for their environmental friendliness and the promotion of a livable urban environment. The company's innovative production methods also make a decisive contribution to climate and resource protection.

The award as part of the Green Buddy Award illustrates the relevance of such initiatives that not only contribute to reducing emissions, but also assume social responsibility. The discussion about sustainable developments in urban regions is becoming increasingly important because Germany urgently needs to reduce climate-damaging emissions. This is part of a broader initiative by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMFTR), which supports BMFTR to improve the quality of life in cities.

The Green Buddy Award

Since its inception, 59 out of 494 applications have been awarded the Green Buddy Award through 2024, which is presented in six different categories, including “Renewable Energy” and “Smart Cities Solutions”. The next award ceremony will take place on March 31, 2025, and the event will take place at Metropol Berlin.

  • Erneuerbare Energien: Innovative Projekte zur nachhaltigen Energiegewinnung
  • Produktion, Dienstleistungen, Handwerk: Unternehmen mit ökologischer Verantwortung
  • Young Green Buddy Award: Förderung junger Talente bis 25 Jahre
  • Einzelhandel: Handelsunternehmen mit nachhaltigen Konzepten
  • Abfallvermeidung: Initiativen zur Müllreduktion
  • Smart Cities Lösungen: Projekte zur umweltfreundlichen Stadtentwicklung

District Mayor Oltmann emphasizes how important it is to promote innovative ideas and role models in order to strengthen sustainable concepts in the region. Funding projects like those of LUWADUR is a step in the right direction to develop Berlin into a more sustainable city.
