Diversity flag: Tempelhof-Schöneberg celebrates bisexuality!

On the occasion of the day of bisexuality, district mayor Jörn Oltmann, together with Biberlin e.V., set a symbolic gesture for tolerance and diversity. In front of the Schöneberg town hall, the flag of bisexuality was hoisted. This event has already become a tradition for the Tempelhof-Schöneberg district and sees it as important to set a sign of acceptance.

The message that Oltmann conveyed was clear: "Bisexual people are an essential part of the queer community and they deserve to be recognized and celebrated". This day emphasizes that bisexuality is not just a phase, but also represents legitimation for an independent sexual orientation. With this campaign, the district would like to symbolize that it stands for diversity and openness - under the motto: love, whoever you want!

history of the Bisexuality Day

The initiative for the day of bisexuality comes from the USA and was launched in 1999 by three civil rights activists. Their intention was to promote the visibility and acceptance of bisexuality in society. The day should draw attention to the fact that bisexuality is one of many legitimate sexual orientations and has so far been overlooked.

In the social discussion, bisexuality takes a special place because it is considered the third largest sexual orientation, heterosexuality and homosexuality. People who identify as bisexual feel emotional, sexual or romantic attraction for both men and women. In many cases, this leads to partnership -based relationships that are not only limited to a gender identity, but can also include polyamor, i.e. several simultaneous romantic relationships.

The Tempelhof-Schöneberg district is actively committed to a respectful and inclusive society in which all sexual orientations find their place. These efforts reflect on the desire for an open community in which diversity is celebrated and accepted.
