Ceremonial anniversary celebration in Friedenau: Review of the past and outlook on the future

A colorful review of the 150th anniversary of Friedenau

Last weekend Friedenau celebrated its 150th anniversary with an impressive variety of events and activities. District Mayor Jörn Oltmann praised the diverse past of the district and at the same time emphasized the importance of dealing with exciting questions about the future. The celebrations were supported by numerous Friedenau associations, institutions and initiatives that presented their activities at various stands.

Musicians and dancers from Friedenau contributed significantly to the attractive stage program, which was opened by the trombone choir with a solemn star march. One of the highlights was the discussion rounds, in which the past, present and future of the densely populated district were discussed. Prominent participants such as Michael Rudolph, Leandro Burgdorff, Alexandra Schibath and Dr. Peter Lemburg provided interesting perspectives and insights.

The emergence of Friedenau

The history of Friedenau goes back to 1874 when Kaiser Wilhelm I awarded the status of a rural community to the district. The "Landerwerb and Bauerverein auf Actien" was founded three years earlier and the first buildings were built. The name "Friedenau" came from peace after the Franco-German War of 1870/71 and the rural character of the Aue.
