Bahnhofstrasse Lichtenrade: Construction contract ended prematurely

The construction work on Bahnhofstrasse Lichtenrade has not progressed in its planned speed, so the street and green space office Tempelhof-Schöneberg and the construction company Leuka decided to end the contract mutually. This step is to take place in the 2nd quarter of 2024 after the current construction phase of Bahnhofsstraße (north side Mellener Straße to Lichtenrader Damm). For the construction phase on the south side and the following two sections, a new construction order will be advertised and re -awarded. Preparations for the tender are already underway, and the change of companies should be seamlessly to avoid further delays in the construction work.

Bahnhofstrasse is of great importance for Lichtenrade as a central business and district center. The redesign should make the shopping street more attractive, especially for pedestrians and cyclists, and invite visitors to linger and stroll. The conversion is the result of a long participation process in the Lichtenrade Bahnhofstrasse urban development area and takes place in three construction phases. A new bike path, barrier -free footpaths with access to the shops and new plantings of trees are created. In addition, all underground infrastructures such as sewage, drinking water and rainwater channels, telecommunications networks and power lines are renewed. The construction started on September 19, 2022 and the completion of the overall project is planned for 2028.
