33. Rec Film Festival: Young talents in the spotlight of Tempelhof

The power of the film: A look at the 33rd Rec Film Festival

From September 18 to 21, 2024, the International Cultural Center in the UFAFAFABRIK opened its doors for the 33rd Rec Film Festival. This festival, which is considered one of the oldest of its kind in Berlin, has developed into an important platform for young talents for various backgrounds. It offers an opportunity for creative exchange and promotes the forms of expression of young film enthusiasts.

It is particularly noteworthy that the festival not only presents films from Berlin, but also contributions from young filmmakers from the partner cities of Tempelhof-Schönebergs-Charenton-Le-Pont, Paderborn, Penzberg and Wuppertal. This shows the international networking and the intercultural dialogue, which is promoted by the medium of film. The age groups of the participants range from 6 to 25 years, which reflects the diversity and creativity of young people in the film industry.

In order to offer young talents even more support, media pedagogical workshops with professional filmmakers are organized in parallel to the film screenings. These workshops are an excellent way for the participants to gain practical experience and refine their craft.

The response to the festival shows not only in the high number of participants, but also in the warm invitation to all cinema fans to take part in the demonstrations and to actively exchange ideas with the young talents. Entry to the events is free of charge, which enables broad access to the art of the film.

A special highlight of the festival is the award ceremony on Saturday, September 21st. Here, a jury, accompanied by Oliver Schworck, the district councilor for youth and health, is awarded to the most outstanding contributions with a total value of 5,000 euros. Schworck emphasizes the meaning of the film as an expression and encourages everyone to enjoy the creative works of the young filmmakers.

The commitment and cooperation of several organizations, including the youth welfare office Tempelhof-Schöneberg, the association Puma e.V., the Netti media competence center and the neighborhood and self-help center Nusz, are crucial for the success of the festival. These partnerships not only strengthen the local community, but also the cultural education and the promotion of creative talents.

In summary, it can be said that the REC Film Festival is a valuable platform for the youth in order to express itself artistically and to step into dialogue. It shows how film can not only entertain as a medium, but can also combine - across borders and through generations.
