Suspect wanted for armed petrol station robbery in Charlottenburg

In the case of attempted robbery on a petrol station in Fraunhoferstrasse in Charlottenburg, the Berlin police identified the suspect. The raid occurred on February 29, 2024 around 8:30 p.m. The 39-year-old man, who is already in custody because of other robbery, is said to have threatened an employee of the petrol station with a pistol and requested cash. However, the employee was able to save himself in an office and refused to surrender the money. While the perpetrator tried to open the cash register himself, he escaped and took a champagne bottle from the sales shelf on his way outside, as reported.

The police have now published photos of the suspect in order to receive further information from the population. The search is intensively, since the authorities hope for a quick clarification of the case. The brutal attacks on petrol stations are not an isolated case in the capital and draw attention to increasing crime in the region. According to the Tagesspiegel, the number of robberies has risen in general.

crime in Berlin in context

The police crime statistics (PKS) is an essential basis for the analysis of crime developments and patterns. These statistics, which has been raised since 2008, provide insights into the type and number of crimes recorded as well as information. Information on the age, gender and nationality of the suspects, as berlin.de describes, are particularly relevant. However, the number of unreported cases is high because not all police crimes become known. It depends on the notification of the population and the control intensity of the police.

The past few years have shown that politically motivated crime and other crimes are increasingly recorded, whereby the PKS is continuously updated to convey a realistic picture of the crime situation.
