Supermarket brand in Meyenburg: Police suspect arsonist!
In the night of Thursday, December 5, 2024, there were devastating fires in both regions of Germany, which affected both a supermarket building in Meyenburg and the environmental education center in the Britzer Garden in Berlin. In Meyenburg, Prignitz district, the building of a supermarket was completely destroyed. According to the Prignitz police, seven fire departments were mobilized with around 50 emergency services to combat the fire. Despite the violent flames, the emergency services succeeded in preventing a spread to the neighboring petrol station and the dealership. A possible starting point for the fire could have been a source of fire on the back of the supermarket, while arson is not excluded. The property damage is estimated at several hundred thousand euros, as RBB24 reported.

At the same time in Berlin, especially in the popular Britzer Garden, heavy fires also broke out. Around 4 a.m., the fire brigade alerted the emergency services, who were quickly on site with 34 people. A free -standing laboratory building of the environmental education center, which was around 400 square meters in size and recently modernized, burned light -fashioned while the fire brigade fought to avert further damage. The state -owned operating company Grün Berlin said that the building has collapsed completely due to alleged arson. Fortunately, there were no injuries in this incident. Investigations into the cause of the fire are underway, and it is believed that fires were set at several places within the park, as it was said in a report by Berlin. Christoph Schmidt, Managing Director of Grün Berlin, was shaken by this act of destruction and criticized increasing vandalism in public spaces.
