Sturm sweeps over Berlin and Brandenburg
On Monday evening the capital Berlin and parts of Brandenburg were haunted by a violent storm. At speeds of up to 110 km/h, the storm swept through the city and caused considerable damage. The fire brigade called out the state of emergency and received more than 300 emergency calls.
Even the S-Bahn was affected by the storm. An S-Bahn derailed after driving over a fallen branch. Fortunately, the passengers could be brought to safety with ladders.
In addition to the heavy rain, the storm also brought violent wind with it. Everywhere in the city, branches broke off at the hurricane gusts, sometimes entire trees were uprooted. The Volkspark Friedrichshain was also affected. The fire brigade also reported parts of the roof of a warehouse in Marienfelde, which the storm moved.
It is not yet known whether there were injuries. Train traffic was also affected by the effects of the storm. There were interruptions on several routes, for example between Blankenburg and Gesundbrunnen/Nordbahnhof at the S2, between Hoppegarten and Fredersdorf at the S5 as well as the lines S41, S42 and S8 between Pankow/Gesundbrunnen or Westend and Greifswalder Straße. Even the S9 and S45 did not drive between Adlershof and Altglienicke. The S3 only drove every 20 minutes and the S85.
The storm also caused damage in Wedding. A tree fell for a Ford, but the driver was unharmed. A massive tree overturned in Gesundbrunnen and damaged two vehicles. On Franklinstrasse, a tree fell on a bus and a bus stop. Nothing is known about possible injuries.
The zoo was not spared the effects of the storm either. Numerous trees could not withstand the strong wind. The fire brigade is now busy fixing the damage.
also raged violent thunderstorms in parts of West Germany, for example at Düsseldorf Airport. There were short -term restrictions, as a video shows. In Cologne, the storm led to full basements and fallen trees. The city reported that several trees were uprooted and a person was slightly injured. The volunteer fire brigade was temporarily deployed with all extinguishing groups.
