Dispute over refugee accommodation in Berlin-Dahlem
The planned container village for refugees on a fallow unibles in Berlin-Dahlem is encountered, especially on the part of the Free University (FU). The university actually intends to build a building for teaching and research. The refugee coordinator of Berlin, Albrecht Broemme, told the FU Chancellor that he wants to temporarily accommodate refugees. The university feels over, since the university management was not integrated into the decision -making processes.
The FU had supported people in the past and provided emergency accommodation. However, the university emphasizes that the property in question is required for its own construction projects after 2023. As an alternative, the university proposes to use empty buildings from the Federal Real Estate Agency, which have already served as refugee accommodations in the past.
The Senate decided at the end of March to build 16 other container villages to accommodate refugees in Berlin. Despite the continuing lack of apartments, there is resistance to the establishment of new accommodations, especially in wealthy districts. The FU is criticized on the Internet because it is perceived as cosmopolitan, but rejects the construction of a refugee container village on the university area. Some users describe this as inconsistent and question the supposed cosmopolitanism of the university.
