Stop and Go at the Senate Mobility Policy Mobility Policy
Mobility Senator Manja Schreiner carried out a large inventory of cycle path construction in Berlin. Now further projects have been released, including long-planned bike paths in the Tempelhof-Schöneberg district. However, other wheel strips are still on ice. The Vice President of the IHK, Robert Rückel, is relieved that the traders have been taken into account and hopes that the Schöneberger model can serve as a blueprint for all of Berlin.
However, there is uncertainty about the scope of the exams and what changes were made. The senator has not yet commented on this. A total of 16 major projects were released, which are to be implemented in the next three months. The Roedernallee in Reinickendorf and Blankenfeld Chaussee in Pankow will continue to fall by the wayside. The Neuköllner Stubenrauchstraße, on which originally safe bike paths were planned, was also stopped after the review. It is likely that the list of projects with an uncertain future is much longer than before.According to a query from the German Environmental Aid (DUH) at the Berlin districts, four other bike paths could threaten. These projects should be completed this year, otherwise funding from the federal government will expire. The Beusselstraße in Mitte, Thielallee and Filandastraße in Steglitz-Zehlendorf and a section of the B96a in Treptow-Köpenick are affected.
A parliamentary request from the Green MPs Oda Hasse Pass confirms that a total of 19.7 kilometers of cycle paths may not be realized in the next few years. This would also result in a repayment of 19 million euros in funding. Hasse fun criticizes the chaos in cycle path construction and demands clear planning.
So it remains to be seen what the further development of the Berlin cycle paths looks like and what effects this will have on mobility policy.
