Stephan Brandner: Criticism of the Federal Cross of Merit to politicians - act of arbitrariness?
Today is a memorable day when Federal President Steinmeier will award a number of politicians with the Cross of Merit. Among them are Prime Minister from Rhineland-Palatinate, Baden-Württemberg, Brandenburg, Lower Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia, as well as the former Bavarian Prime Minister Seehofer. However, the award ceases to criticize, especially Stephan Brandner, deputy federal chairman of the alternative for Germany.
Brandner criticizes that politicians surround each other for their achievements, which he describes as more bad than right. He criticizes the fact that none of the excellent has emerged through special commitment and describes the award as stressful. He criticizes the award of the Prime Minister Dreyer, which he blamed for her alleged failure in the flood disaster.
The Federal Cross of Merit in Germany is awarded for excellent benefits on political, economic, cultural and spiritual field. The award is usually given by the Federal President, who receives the orders of the order, among other things, from the Prime Minister of the federal states. Each Federal President has the option of lending up to 500 Federal Crosses of Merit, which means that the total number of the order is relatively limited.
in Berlin, as a political capital of Germany, the award of the Crosses of Merit will probably encounter great interest and discussions among the population. Brandner's criticism may reflect the opinion of some Berliners.
The historical background should be mentioned that the Federal Cross of Merit was donated by Federal President Theodor Heuss in 1951. It is one of the highest recognition that can be awarded to German and foreign citizens.
