Forgotten painters: Special exhibition in the Zehlendorf local museum
On Sunday, April 7, 2024, the Heimatmuseum Zehlendorf opens a special exhibition entitled "The Miss on the easel - three almost forgotten Zehlendorfer painters". This exhibition presents paintings by Doramaria Purschian, Maria Henseler and Hilde Althaus, three painters who were born at the end of the 19th century and received an apprenticeship as a painter in the early 20th century.
It is particularly noteworthy that these women were able to complete training in the visual art at the time, even though it was extremely controversial. The State Berlin Art Academy was only opened in 1919 and began to accept women as students.
The exhibition is accessible at the known opening times of the local museum, on Wednesday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on Thursday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. The end of the exhibition is planned for September 8, 2024. Admission is free, but there is a request for donations.
In addition, the cover story of the current Zehlendorfer Heimatbriefs, April 2024 edition, informs about the life and work of the painters. The home letter is available for a protection fee of 2.50 euros in the local museum and also deals with other topics such as the history of the Landhaus Benecke in Wilskistrasse, the failed plan of a tourist tax for the Schlachtensee, the 150th anniversary of the Schlachtenensee station and the foundation of the Droste-Hülshoff-Gymnasium in Schönower Straße.
The Zehlendorfer Heimatmuseum is located in Clayallee 355, 14169 Berlin, in the historic corner. Further information about the museum and the Heimatverein are available on the website www.heimatmuseum-zehlendorf.de.
