U3 extension: Kleinmachnow has a connection to the capital!
The residents of Kleinmachnow expect an improvement in Berlin. The FDP faction in BVV Steglitz-Zehlendorf calls for an extension of the U3 to the future Düppel-Kleinmachnow regional train station. This requirement was formulated with regard to the need to better connect residential areas south of Potsdam Chaussee to the public transport network. The FDP Group's traffic policy spokesman, Gregor Habbel, puts great hopes in this project and sees the link between the U3 and regular railway a chance to reduce commuting. The plans also provide for a new underground station south of Potsdam Chaussee between Mexicoplatz and the planned train station in Düppel-Kleinmachnow.
In the future, the planning for the transfer station between the subway and the regional train is to be coordinated. The measure already decided to extend the U3 operation to the Mexicoplatz, as well as the reopening of the main railway, are intended to promote the mobility of the residents in the southwest of Berlin and adjacent Brandenburg areas. In the long term, further construction phases are also considered that provide an expansion of the U3 within Kleinmachnow, based on historical route planning.planned construction work from May 2025
The upcoming extension of the U3 to the Mexicoplatz in Zehlendorf is the first concrete subway expansion project of the Berlin Senate. The first construction work is scheduled to begin in May 2025. For this, the Argentine avenue is torn up over a length of 800 meters to create a new tunnel for the subway. This measure creates a connection between the S1 S1 and U3 underground line. The new Mexicoplatz underground station is built southwest of the S-Bahn embankment and is planned with two outputs and corresponding barrier-free access options.
During the construction period, the Argentine avenue will remain in section, whereby there may be restrictions. In addition, a full closure of the street on the S-Bahn bridge is planned during the construction work. A new underpass is built at the level of the Urselweg for the use of the S-Bahnhof. The U3 extension should be completed by 2030 and runs in parallel to the extensive construction work on the S-Bahn Bridge, which will be planned with a new building from 2031. This not only creates an improved connection, but also an important step into the future of local public transport in the region.
For many citizens in the neighboring districts and the surrounding area, the question remains when exactly the U3 extension, which has been discussed for over two decades, will finally be realized. For the residents of Kleinmachnow and the commuters in the eastern Simmering, there is a need for a reliable and efficient transport connection. The pressure on the city to finally present clear plans and a time frame for the implementation of the U3 extension is increasing.
