Ordnungsamt Treptow-Köpenick is planning cyclists in green areas
The regulatory office Treptow-Köpenick announces targeted controls of cyclists in Treptower Park and other green areas of the district to ensure the safety and untrained use of the green areas. The Treptower Park, as the largest green area in the district, is subject to a legal bike ban, with the exception of a signposted cycle path. As early as 2007, it was checked whether cycling in the park could be allowed, but it was decided that the needs of park visitors have priority, in particular the unhindered movement of children and the elderly. The driving of public green areas outside the designated areas is an administrative offense and can be punished with a fine. The regulatory office appeals to the mutual consideration and compliance with the regulations.
In Treptow-Köpenick and other districts of Berlin, cycling in green areas is a common topic, since the increasing use of the systems by cyclists repeatedly leads to conflicts. The implementation of controls and the punishment of violations of the cycling ban should help ensure the safety of the park visitors and to enable the green areas to be used.
The table below shows the legal provisions for cyclists in green areas in Berlin:
| Green system | Cycling allowed |
| ———————— | --—————— |
| Treptower Park | Only on designated cycle paths |
| Tiergarten | Not allowed |
| Volkspark Friedrichshain | Designated cycle paths available |
It is important that cyclists observe the applicable regulations and use the green areas with respect to avoid conflicts and to ensure the safety of all park visitors.
