Children's and youth juries share € 16,500 for projects
On March 21, 2024, the meeting of the children's and youth juries took place to distribute the total budget of € 16,500 for their project ideas. The juries, consisting of representatives of project groups, were formed after project groups with their ideas had registered by February 21, 2024. Participation as a jury member was linked to certain conditions, such as self -organized projects of at least three people up to 21 years of age.
The rush was so large this year that only one group could be approved per facility to ensure a fair distribution of the funding amount. The meetings were led by volunteers from the Steglitz-Zehlendorf children's and youth office. The groups presented their project ideas and together decidedly about the distribution of the budget. Since the applications exceeded the budget, the groups had to negotiate with each other how the funding is distributed.
During the negotiation process, it was shown that many groups were ready to save on their projects. There were discussions about fairness and solidarity, especially in projects that should support poverty. The dynamics emerged that groups "donated" money to promote other projects.District Councilor Carolina Böhm praised the commitment of the young people and emphasized the sense of responsibility of young people in civil society. She thanked everyone who brought ideas and participated in the jury. The youth jury had to make difficult decisions, but showed great interest and commitment to her projects.
A table with information on the funded projects, the groups involved and the respective funding amounts could offer a deeper insight into the distribution of the budget and the variety of projects. The commitment of the young people clearly shows that they want to actively participate in the design of their surroundings and take responsibility.
