Gottfried-Benn-Library: modernized and expanded!

The Gottfried-Benn-Library in Steglitz-Zehlendorf is now fully functional and open again after extensive renovation work and the expansion of the IT network during the regular opening hours. In addition to a modern, fully automatic sorting and return system, the library now offers an extended range of offers.

The renovation measures included the renewal of the windows and outer facade to improve thermal insulation and building efficiency. The district councilor for Education, Culture and Sport, Ms. Cerstin Richter-Kotowski, emphasized the importance of these measures and announced that electrical and sanitary facilities will be renewed in the next construction phase and an elevator is installed to improve the library.

In addition to the renovation work, new offers were introduced in the Gottfried Bennn library, including regular workshops and events of various kinds. A game corner and a reading corner were set up on the ground floor in which children can play board games and promote their cognitive skills in a playful way. A smartboard enables interactive learning activities such as digital puzzles, quiz games and interactive stories.

The innovations were presented by department head Mr. Gehring and the head of the library, Mr. Luckas. From now on, visitors can use the library without restriction again. The measures should make the library more accessible to all visitors and enrich the cultural offer for the residents of Steglitz-Zehlendorf.
