Memories from the Pop Inn: Berlin's legendary teen disk wanted!

Ahornstraße 15a, 12165 Berlin, Deutschland - The legendary youth club "Pop Inn" in Ahornstrasse 15a in Berlin-Steglitz, which has been a fixed point of contact for young people for decades, is now getting new attention. Well-known stories and memories from this unique teen discotheque are in demand. The "Pop Inn" was opened in 1960 as the first youth club in West Berlin and offered young people the opportunity to celebrate and dance according to the youth protection law. At the weekend, the youngsters flocked to the club, while those under the age of 16 had to leave the building at 10 p.m. in order to discuss loudly on the street in accordance with the events of the evening. Unfortunately, the "Pop Inn" had to close in 2013, and since then the building has been revealed to decay.

In order to preserve the memories of this special place, the Kulturamt Steglitz-Zehlendorf is planning a theater performance about the history of the club. The project "Syndicate Dangerous Love" will implement the project in 2026. Maximilian Hagemeyer, the program coordinator of the cultural office, is looking for personal anecdotes from former guests of the "Pop Inn". We are looking for not only memories of experiences in the club, but also special moments, for example from a New Year's concert by the band "Die Doctors" in 1984. Interested parties are invited to send their stories by email to culture@ba-sz.berlin.de and thus become part of this cultural project.

a place full of memories

"Pop Inn" was not only a place to make dancing and friendships, but also a room in which many young people had their first experiences in the world of nightlife. The club quickly developed into an important point of contact for the youth in the southwest of Berlin. The offer to celebrate in a safe environment has contributed to the fact that the "Pop Inn" has become an integral part of the Berlin cultural scene over the years

The cultural office has placed great importance to collecting as many voices as possible and preserving the history of the club alive. Among the memories you are looking for are the funny anecdotes of how to persuade your own parents to go to the "Pop Inn". "We would like to incorporate the fascination and emotions that this place triggered in the theater performance," emphasizes Hagemeyer.
