The new center concept for Steglitz-Zehlendorf: Exciting discussion in the regional incubator Südwest regional incubator
according to a report by www.berlin.de A regional incubator Berlin Südwest (Rik), in which the new center concept for Steglitz-Zehlendorf was presented and discussed.
The event highlighted the current challenges that retail in the Berlin-Brandenburg region faces each other. The managing director of the Berlin-Brandenburg trade association, Philip Haverkamp, referred to the increased food and energy prices, the effects of corona pandemic as well as the geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and the effects of the Russian war of aggression. These factors have led to burglaries in the consumption mood, especially in Berlin, where purchasing power is traditionally limited.
In terms of Steglitz-Zehlendorf, Peter Helbig presented numbers, which show that the region is faced with challenges despite its 1314 retailers and a sales area of 330,000 square meters. Schloßstraße, the main center of the region, is particularly struggling with a vacancy of 19 percent of the sales area, with mainly smaller shops affected.
The discussion at the event emphasized the need to design the shopping experience beyond pure consumption. City Council for Urban Development, Patrick Steinhoff, promised that the district office would work to create attractive centers for the residents of Steglitz-Zehlendorf. The idea of more versatile use of the premises, such as for cultural intermediate use, was also emphasized.
Overall, the discussion shows the efforts to boost the retail trade in Steglitz-Zehlendorf and to make the shopping experience more diverse and attractive.
