Visit from Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan: Berlin Health Department shows experts German reporting and infection monitoring
On Friday, October 20, 2023, a ten-member delegation from Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan visited the Steglitz-Zehlendorf health department at the invitation of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI). The aim of the visit was to give the Surveillance experts from the two countries an insight into the surveillance and tracking of infectious diseases as well as German reporting. The Steglitz-Zehlendorf health department was also selected to give the experts an impression of working at regional and local level.
According to a report by www.berlin.de, the official doctor Christian Schulze, who welcomed the delegation on behalf of the city councilor for youth and health, Ms. Carolina Böhm, were very honored to represent the German health authorities and to present their work. As part of the visit, various experts from the health department explained the legal foundations, the structures and the distribution of tasks at the federal and state level. In addition, the guests were brought closer to the monitoring of the drinking water supply and the path of processing of reports of infectious diseases was clearly presented.
The collaboration as part of the German Bio Security Program was an important context for visiting the delegation from Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, which works in the area of surveillance. The program started in 2023 with a new program phase and builds on existing cooperation with the countries of the region. The RKI has been involved in the German organic security program since 2013 and supports the partner countries in building capacities in the areas of organic security and crisis reaction.
The cooperation and the transfer of knowledge between the countries involved are of great importance to improve the monitoring of infectious diseases and to strengthen the health systems. Further information on the German Bio Security Program can be found on the official RKI website.
