Tree felling work for route in Steglitz-Zehlendorf
Stromnetz Berlin is currently expanding the power supply in Steglitz-Zehlendorf with the construction of a new 110kV cable connection between the Lichterfelde Heating Power Plant and the Kopernikus substation on Potsdamer Straße in the Steglitz district. Unfortunately, tree felling work is also required for the route in the area of the green area on the Schwatlografen. For safety reasons, the green area is completely closed to the preparation and implementation of this work from February 22, 2024 to February 29, 2024. Some trees can be felled by autumn despite the legal "felling and cutting ban", since it is a matter of species protection under species protection law.
Stromnetz Berlin has undertaken to make a compensation payment for the trees to be felled to the Steglitz-Zehlendorf district office. After completing the construction work, the district office will implement the replacement planting so that the Schwatlografe is ecologically upgraded. It is planned that the green area will probably remain closed by August 2024, since civil engineering work will take place along the cable road in the following period.
The tree felling work and the associated blocking of the green area can lead to local effects that must be taken into account by residents and visitors to the Schwatlograben. However, the need for the measures to expand the power supply should also be considered in connection with the steadily growing demand for electricity in the region.
It is important to note that the measures are carried out with the participation of an ecological building manager to ensure that the interventions in nature are kept as minimally as possible. The compensation payment for the trees to be felled shows the effort to compensate for the ecological effects of the construction project and to upgrade the green area in the long term.
The following table shows an overview of the planned measures and restrictions in connection with the construction work and the closure of the green area at the Schwatlografen:
| Period | Measure |
| ——————— | ——————————- |
| 22.02.2024 - 29.02.2024 | Locking of the green area |
| From March 1, 2024 | Completion understood under species protection lawyer
| Probably until August 2024 | Locking of the green area for civil engineering work |
| After completing the construction work Replacements by the district office |
It should be emphasized that the planning and implementation of construction work in urban areas always requires a consideration between the need for infrastructure extensions and the ecological effects. In this case, the local community and nature lovers can trust that the measures will be carefully planned and implemented in order to keep the effects on the environment as low as possible.
