State Secretary Döring retired - affair in the Federal Ministry unveiled

BMBF scandal: An unfortunate situation for everyone involved

Sabine Döring, a former philosophy professor from Tübingen, who was appointed State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), was recently confronted with a delicate matter. After it became known that on May 13th she had given the command to review funding laws against signatories of an open letter from university lecturers in Berlin, she was retired.

The Federal Minister of Education Bettina Stark-Watzinger revealed on June 26, before the Bundestag's education committee, that the State Secretary had acted her own. Already on May 10th there was a commission to create a list of the signatories of the letter that received funding from the BMBF. This is supposed to serve to prepare for possible press inquiries. The minister was only informed about these processes after the scandal.

The controversy and its consequences

The affair raises many questions and has led to a turbulent situation within the Ministry of Education. The independence of science and the transparency in research funding are being put to the test. Public opinion is divided, while the participants try to clarify the matter and to restore confidence in the institution.

It is important that such incidents are taken seriously and thoroughly examined to ensure that the integrity of the educational institutions and the rule of law are maintained.
