During New Year's Eve 2024, the joy of the new year is overshadowed by serious injuries and tragic accidents with fireworks. A 31-year-old police chief in Berlin suffered a severe facial injury in an incident, which led to the complete blindness of his right eye. According to BZ Berlin , he was seriously injured in the explosion of a firecracker on the fence of his duty on January 2 at 8:20 p.m. and is still in the hospital. Friends and colleagues have launched a fundraising campaign that has already collected over 11,000 euros to help the officials and his family in this critical period.

five deaths and numerous injuries

The New Year's Eve 2024 had dangerous surprises ready for many Germans. At least five people lost their lives in accidents with fireworks, such as shz.de . In several cities there were also attacks on police and emergency services, with 390 arrests being registered in Berlin alone. There were injuries almost everywhere, among other things in attacks on firefighters and police officers who were shot at with pyrotechnics.

The police also found that dangerous pyrotechnic products, such as self -made firecrackers and illegal fireworks, were often responsible for fatal accidents. In at least two cases, improper handling of these objects led to fatal injuries. These incidents once again throw a critical light on the dangers of fireworks and the associated risks that increase again and again at the turn of the year.
