Refurbishment of the Carlo Schmid secondary school: important step for Spandau!
Spandau has taken an important step in school -specific infrastructure development. On September 26, 2024, the project agreement for the renovation of the Carlo Schmid secondary school was signed. This significant event was found between the district councilor Dr. Carola Brückner and the Howoge Wohnungsbaugesellschaft mbH take place. The aim of this initiative is to expand the school into a modern integrated secondary school with space for around 900 students. This will include a six -tier secondary level I and a four -day high school.
The planning phase that took several years included various analyzes and votes with the school community. A needs program was also created, which serves as the basis for the upcoming steps. The signing of the agreement marks the transition from the planning steps to implement. The Howoge will now advertise the necessary planning services for the renovation and new building. A central point is the handling of the existing buildings that leave little natural light inside due to their deep buildings.
plans for the future
Those responsible have made great challenges. Jens Wadle, an authorized representative of the Howoge, emphasized the need to find sustainable solutions, while temporary buildings on the school premises had to be provided. "A long project is already behind us. We are looking forward to the front," said Wadle, while he outlined the schedule: The construction work is to begin in the first quarter of 2027, with a desired completion by the end of 2031.
dr. Carola Brückner, who is responsible for education, culture, sports and facility management, was optimistic about the future of the school. "The school community has been looking forward to this day: the renovation and expansion of the Carlo Schmid high school is sealed," she said, adding that the signing of the project agreement is a decisive step towards the necessary modernization of the school.
The now signed agreement regulates the responsibilities and is the basis for further contractual obligations, such as the rental and heritage law contracts between howoge and the state of Berlin. These steps are essential, which are also possible in the construction phase. Planning is currently ongoing, and a building application will be submitted in the near future.
The Carlo Schmid secondary school is not only optically, but also functionally upgraded by this extensive construction project. By setting up a newcomer to supplementary construction, modern classrooms and suitable learning places will be available to future students. The renovation aims to raise learning and teaching in Spandau to a new level.
