New funding program for Spandauer Sports talent: Top sport promotion started

New funding program to support Spandauer top athletes

In order to promote the promising sports talents in Spandau in a targeted manner, the school and sports office has launched a new funding program: “top sports funding” is intended to support athletes who represent the district at national or international competitions and have not received sufficient financial support so far.

Top sports funding is granted individuals who are active in a Spandau sports club and take part in national or international competitions. The applications must be submitted by the athletes themselves and can be submitted to the Sports of the School and Sports Office until August 31, 2024.

Financial support can be applied for for travel and logistics costs related to training camps or competitions. In addition, it is possible to obtain funds for the procurement of sports equipment that are essential for the exercise of the respective sport. Each athlete can receive a funding of up to € 2,000 per year, whereby higher funding is also possible in exceptional cases.

dr. Carola Brückner, sports city councilor in Spandau, emphasizes the importance of the funding program for the support of the top athletes: "The successes of our top athletes have a significant impact on the reputation of the district and contribute to the enthusiasm for sport in the population. It is consistent and correct to support our sporting service providers."

Lars Reinefahl, chairman of the Sports Committee of the Spandau district council, is pleased with the quick implementation of the funding program: "The funds for top sport in Spandau have already been provided for the upcoming budget negotiations. Together with the district office, we will decide which athletes and talents from Spandau can be funded."
