A mega project ignites in Spandau! The school on the Jungfernheide is facing a brilliant new beginning. On Wednesday, November 6, 2024, district councilor Dr. Carola Brückner and the Howoge Wohnungsbaugesellschaft mbH the highly expected project agreement on the comprehensive renovation and dramatic expansion of this educational institution!

But that's not all! It is planned not only to renovate the school complex, but also to expand tremendously on an adjacent property. The previously three -tier integrated secondary school will transform up to 1,038 students with an ambitious new building into a huge community school with ↔️! The new concept relies on inclusion and a special focus on "intellectual development". A double sports hall is also being built, which offers the students space for movement and sport, while new break and open spaces are created!

But there are also hurdles to overcome! The two properties on which the school project is to be realized are separated from each other by the railway line of the Siemensbahn. And that's not all: parts of the existing school are even listed! A real puzzle for the planners!

Nevertheless, preparations are in full swing! In recent years, profound inventory analyzes and spatial programs have been created. The school community was actively involved in the planning, and now a planner competition for the extension can finally be advertised!

"We are enthusiastic about promoting the planning with the school community, the district office Spandau and the Senate Department for Education, Youth and Family!", Said Jens Wadle, authorized signatory and head of the Howoge. "We aim at a building permit in the summer of 2027 to enable construction in late 2027. The first students will probably then move into the new building at the end of 2029! Overall completion? By the beginning of 2032 everything is dry!

"With this agreement we secure another school building project in Spandau! We are already the leader in Berlin!" Carola Brückner. "But more importantly: We not only create additional places for high school students, but also urgently needed primary school places in the Siemensstadt region. With today's signing, we have moved in much closer to this goal!"
