Mayors-for-Peace flag as an international symbol for peace

In the middle of global conflicts and the threat to democracy from climate change, actions were held throughout Germany on July 8th as part of the Mayors for Peace. The participation in the campaign, in which the Mayors-For-Peace flag was raised in front of Rathäusern, illustrated the clear commitment of cities for a peaceful world without nuclear weapons.

The city of Berlin, represented by district mayor Frank Luit, set a strong sign with the hoist of the flag in front of the Spandau town hall. Werly emphasized that this symbolic action underlines the obligation to become a world -free world. By participating in the Global Initiative Mayors for Peace, Spandau shows an active role in the world's striving for peace and security for future generations.

Mayors for Peace, founded in 1982 by the mayors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, is decisively committed to the complete abolition of nuclear weapons. The network today has over 8,000 cities in 165 countries and regions that are committed to a safer world.

Given the current uncertainties in the world, the importance of a common and solidarity commitment for peace emphasizes. Spandau sees itself proudly as part of this international movement and promises to continue to take all the necessary measures to make the city and the whole world safer.
