Information event for chronically ill people in Spandau: Register now!

The “Mela 8” advice center of the Spandau Health Department invites you to an information event on September 11, 2025, which is particularly aimed at people with disabilities, cancer and chronic illnesses. This event takes place from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. in Melanchthonstr. 8, 13595 Berlin. In addition to the opportunity to exchange ideas with experts on topics such as level of care and severely disabled ID, a varied program is also offered.

The program items include guest lectures that deal with important topics, including methods for saving energy, the “Care in Need” initiative and information from the North Integration Service. In addition, an introductory course in rehabilitation sports is offered to offer participants practical insights and support.

Advice and support for those affected

“Mela 8” also offers comprehensive medical and psychosocial advice for citizens with health problems, cancer and those in need of care, as well as their relatives. This includes support in applying for assistance, preparing statements on applications for integration assistance and carrying out assessments on the degree of need for care. Participants also receive recommendations on aids, rehabilitation options and preventive measures.

In Germany, chronic illnesses such as severe migraines, ulcerative colitis or chronic hepatitis can be recognized as disabilities. The legal regulations stipulate that a degree of disability (GdB) of 50 to 70 can be achieved, depending on the severity of the symptoms. The application for severe disability is submitted to the responsible pension office, where the criteria are checked on a case-by-case basis. If the decision is positive, the applicants will receive a notice of determination that documents the details of their disability and the GdB that was determined. This can be of great importance for many affected people, as it can provide access to urgently needed services and support, as [vdk.de](https://www.vdk.de/aktuelles/tipp/unsichtbares-leiden-chronische-krankenen-koennen-als-behinderung-anerkannt- Werden/) reports.

Additional independent participation advice

Supplementary independent participation advice (EUTB®) is also available for people with (foreseeable) disabilities and their relatives. This offers neutral, free advice that is accessible nationwide. Topics such as financial support, independence, wheelchair use and special aids are covered. Here, those affected can find orientation on relevant questions about rehabilitation and participation. Further information and materials are available on the bmas.de website.

The information event in “Mela 8” promises not only valuable information, but also a space for exchange and networking for people who live with the challenges of disabilities and chronic illnesses.
