Heerstrasse is being renovated: full closure from October 11th to 14th!
The Heerstraße in Spandau will soon be completely blocked due to necessary renovation work. The period for the full closure extends from October 11, 2024, 6:00 p.m. to October 14, 2024, 5:00 a.m. The measures aim to renew the road between Gatower Straße and Wilhelmstrasse.
Important information on the renovation
City Councilor Thorsten Schatz explained that this work affects a total length of about 350 meters and, despite the inevitable traffic restrictions, are designed for a rapid implementation. "Ultimately, this measure not only benefits the residents, but also the road users from a new, resistant carriageway ceiling," said Schatz.
Details about the work
As part of the renovation work, both the asphalt binder layer and the asphalt cover layer are removed and replaced. It is planned to provide the entire road surface, which is about 4,500 m² tall, with a new cover layer made of split mastixasphalt (approx. 4.00 cm thick) and an asphalt binder layer (approx. 8.00 cm thick). It is important to add that the concrete interface at the bus stop is not being renewed for the time being.
For traffic, the full closure means that the diversion is carried out in a west direction via Gatower Straße and Brunsbütteler Damm. In the eastern direction, the vehicles are led via the Magistratweg and the Brunsbütteler Damm to avoid the construction site.
Another point affects the BVG bus lines that cannot stop at the bus stops in Heerstrasse during construction times. The existing stop in Wilhelmstrasse is approached as a replacement for the city. Passengers can use the bus stop in Gatower Strasse, near the intersection to Heerstrasse.
These comprehensive work on Heerstrasse are part of the special program for road renovations by the Senate Department for the Environment, Mobility, Consumer and Climate Protection. The investments and the associated restrictions aim to improve the city's infrastructure in the long term and to offer road users a safer and more stable road.
