A century for the youth: Berlin youth welfare offices celebrate 100 years of commitment

An unforgettable day in the heart of Berlin! The youth welfare offices of the capital celebrated an impressive 100th anniversary in the Majestic Red City Hall today! A colorful festival full of art and appearances by talented children and adolescents attracted numerous guests. Among the guests of honor were not only employees of the youth welfare offices, but also high -ranking representatives of the free youth welfare institutions. Senator for youth, education and family, Katharina Günther-Wünsch, as well as Falko Liecke, the State Secretary for Youth, were also present-a sign of the important role that the youth welfare offices play in Berlin.

The mood was overwhelming! The keynote speakers illuminated the impressive development of the youth welfare offices over a whole century. Tanja Franzke, district councilor and provisional responsible for order, emphasized the crucial evolution in the task of the youth welfare offices, which have grown from pure danger to a service provider that supports children to grow healthy and happy. A clear call to strengthen child protection could not be ignored!

In a captivating speech, the renowned legal scientist Prof. Dr. Reinhard Wiesner of the history and current challenges of the youth welfare offices. "We have to consider the fundamental rights of the parents and the protection of the children equally," said Wiesner. This means that a high level of social recognition is required for the important tasks of the specialists! It shows that the youth welfare offices are more a backing for families today - with a wide range of offers.

An impressive film contribution gave those present an authentic insight into the experiences and challenges that moved both current and former employees. Topics such as the shortage of skilled workers, demographic change and digital transformation have been illuminated - indispensable for the future orientation of the youth welfare offices!

A festival of talent! The performances of the KKG-Kuma-Kids gang from Kreuzberg and the artistic interludes of the Cabuwazi circus took the audience into a world full of creativity and joie de vivre. But that was not all: a catering service of schoolchildren at the school on Zwickauer Damm in Neukölln provided culinary highlights.

The legal foundations of the youth welfare offices were created in 1924 with the Reich Youth Welfare Act. This law revolutionized youth welfare in Berlin by bundling the various areas of youth welfare into a uniform organization. The youth welfare office has changed from a pure care approach to modern service providers who support and promote families comprehensively.
