Social and welfare associations warn of impending cuts in the federal budget 2025

An alliance of various social and welfare associations as well as Campact and the ver.di union warned in a joint press release about the possible negative effects of cuts in the Federal Budget 2025. The signatories, including the parity overall association, emphasize the connection between an intact welfare state and social cohesion. Especially in times of the strengthening of right forces, social cuts, according to the chairman of the parity overall association, provide Prof. Dr. Rolf Rosenbrock, a kind of fire accelerator.

Rosenbrock points out that there are already blatant supply gaps in the area of social infrastructure, health care and housing care. With a view to alarming survey results in favor of extremist parties, he emphasizes that the wrong ones benefit from the social reduction of the past decades. In order to stop this dangerous trend, Rosenbrock asks the traffic light coalition not only to do without the threatened reductions, but also to invest in social and health infrastructure.

A BAGFW survey on Wednesday showed that two thirds of the facilities and organizations of free welfare care had had to cut or hire offers in the past two years. This questionable trend is threatened with further cuts in the Federal Budget.

According to Rosenbrock, the fear of social descent makes people vulnerable to simple solutions and the devaluation of marginalized groups that are said to be better. In order to defuse this time bomb, he demands no less, but significantly more expenses for social security and social infrastructure.

In addition to the parity overall association, the Ver.di union, the AWO workers' welfare, the DRK, the Social Association Germany SOVD, Diakonie, VdK Germany, Volkssolidarity and Campact The position paper of the Alliance.

The table below gives an overview of the supportive organizations and associations as well as their demands:

| Organization/Association | Demands |
| —————————— | --——————————————————————————— | Parity overall association | Establishment of cuts in the federal budget 2025 and investments in social and health infrastructure |
| Union ver.di | |
| Workers' Welfare (AWO) | |
| German Red Cross (DRK) | |
| Social Association of Germany (SOVD) | |
| Diakonie | |
| VdK Germany | |
| People's solidarity | |
| Campact | |

The position paper with the exact claims can be downloaded from the alliance website.

It remains to be seen whether the traffic light coalition will react to the warnings of the alliance and what decisions will be made in the Federal Budget 2025. In view of the existing supply gaps in the social infrastructure, an increased investment in the welfare state would certainly be an important step to strengthen social cohesion and counteract extremist tendencies.
