Solidarity and participation: Colorful Pride Parade for people with disabilities in Berlin
colorful demonstration calls for more participation for people with disabilities
A Pride Parade took place in Berlin, in which people with disabilities for their rights took to the streets. The motto "Hinder, crazy, celebrating solidarity" was supported by hundreds of demonstrators who campaigned for a more inclusive society.
The event, which took place for the eleventh time, moved a colorful amount from Hasenheide to the Kottbusser Tor. Around 900 people joined the protest to point out the need that people with disabilities should have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else. This means access to education, training and jobs, both paid and on a voluntary basis.
A central concern of the demonstration was the demand for social participation and protection against violence. The organizers emphasized the importance that people with disabilities not only work in workshops, but should also have the same options as all other citizens.
Participation in the Pride Parade illustrated solidarity and the commitment of many people for an inclusive and fairer society. It remains to be hoped that such events raise awareness of the needs and rights of people with disabilities and lead to concrete improvements in legislation and social practice.
