The development of skateboarding

skateboarding has developed from a leisure activity for surfers in California to a recognized sport since the 1950s. Originally known as "Sidewalk Surfing", the sport has developed, with technological innovations such as light materials and improved axes. Competitions originally gathered in informal among friends, but today events such as the World Freestyle Skateboarding Championships are a sign of the worldwide popularity and recognition of sport.

The combination of creative tricks and various competitive formats such as Vert, Bowl and Street has not only made skateboarding into a competition, but also a cultural phenomenon. Important skateboarding events such as the Street League and the X Games have further integrated the sport into pop culture and increased its visibility. The community is further strengthened by social media and live broadcasts, which gives skateboarding a new dimension.

The upcoming World Championships in Brandenburg an der Havel will therefore not only be a sporty highlight, but also a contribution to promoting skateboarding culture and its important role in society. The organizers, under the direction of Christian Heise, have set themselves the goal of further promoting sport and inspiring more people for active participation.
