Security measures have an effect: No special occurrences on sunny summer weekends in Berlin outdoor pools

Last weekend

Berlin finally experienced nice summer weather with temperatures around 27 degrees. This attracted many people to the city's outdoor pools. In order to prevent violent acts and disputes, the police and the bathing companies had announced an increased presence of security forces - and it seems to work. According to a police spokeswoman, there were no special events on Sunday.

An example of this reinforced security presence was the outdoor pool on the islander. On Sunday morning, the bathroom filled continuously and employees of a private security service checked the ID cards at the entrance. In addition, numerous swimming masters were clearly visible. Already on Friday afternoon the security service had called the police, who then appeared to remind two young people that everything should remain peaceful and stress -free.

The reinforced security measures were taken according to violence, wrangling and renitated behavior of bathers in the Berlin outdoor pools in June and July. Now there is an obligation to identify for visitors and the areas of the inputs and outputs of the Columbiabad in Neukölln as well as the baths in Pankow, Kreuzberg and on the islander are monitored. In addition, the security personnel were increased in the bathrooms.

In the first six weeks of the summer season, a total of 48 violent offenses were recorded in the Berlin outdoor pools, including above all bodily harm and some cases of sexual harassment, threats, coherence and robberies. This emerges from a response from the Senate and the police at a request from the Greens. The incidents were distributed relatively evenly to the months of June and July as well as various swimming pools such as the Columbiabad, the Prinzenbad, the Sommerbad Pankow, the outdoor pool Seestrasse, the Strandbad Plötzensee and the Olympiad.

Due to the bad weather in the past few weeks, no further major incidents are known. The increased security measures seem to have an effect and to enable visitors to have a safe and relaxed bathing experience.
