Security in road traffic: Federal Transport Minister presents new light test badge for drivers

New light test badge should improve security in road traffic

The Licht Test Plaque 2024 was presented in the Ministry of Transport. This badge is intended to help improve safety in road traffic, especially during the dark season. In the largest nationwide traffic safety campaign in October, millions are expected from drivers who have their vehicle lighting checked. If you pass the test, you will receive the new light blue badge for the windshield and thus signal the police during traffic controls that the car light was checked.

The initiative is carried out by the Central Association of German Motor Motor Show (ZDK) and the German Verkehrswacht (DVW), in cooperation with the Federal Ministry of Transport. Federal Transport Minister Dr. Volker Wissing emphasized the importance of safe car driving and the optimal view during the dark season. He appealed to the drivers to use the light test and thus make a contribution to safety in road traffic.

The President of the ZDK, Arne Joswig, emphasized the role of the vehicle businesses, which regularly maintained on the streets. The light test should focus on vehicle lighting in October and take care of safe driving in autumn and winter. Prof. Kurt Bodewig, President of the DVW, emphasized that correctly set headlights contributes to recognizing and avoiding accidents at an early stage

Last year, every fourth car and even every third commercial vehicle had defects in the car lighting. For this reason, the participating car companies will again offer free tests of vehicle lighting this year in October and remedy necessary defects. Volkswagen Germany, Osram, Auto Bild, the Nuremberg Insurance and Hella Gutmann also support the campaign.

The light test has been organized by the ZDK in cooperation with the DVW since 1956. The new light test badge is another measure to improve traffic safety. With this badge, drivers can show that their car light has been checked and that they make their contribution to safety in road traffic.
