Sergio Perez: A new beginning or the end in Formula 1?

After a turbulent season in Formula 1, Sergio Perez lost the support of Red Bull Racing. The Mexican driver, who had signed an extension of his contract until 2026 just a few months ago, was immediately released from the team. This decision was made, after his services were increasingly dissatisfying and in the last rounds of the season with five technical failures and a catastrophic season finale in Abu Dhabi, he was released, where he was already out of the race in the first round after an accident. According to Forbes this decision resulted in both the end of a four -year partnership between Perez and Red Bull and the end of his career in Formula 1 for 2025.

In a first statement after the separation, Perez was pleased with his newly gained free time and emphasized that he did not quite complete Formula 1. "It is too early to give an answer," said the 35-year-old. He plans to have fun in the coming months and spend time with his family, while he remains open to interesting career projects. Despite his gratitude for the past four years, in which he has celebrated numerous successes with Red Bull, Berlin Live that the agreement was the best solution for both sides to separate from each other.

uncertain future for Perez

The circumstances around Perez illustrate instability in Formula 1, where the top positions can change quickly. After strong starting performances in the season, including several podium places, a dramatic drop in performance led to Red Bull's decision to replace it in this critical phase. Due to the full driver lists for all ten teams in 2025, Perez will not be able to compete in the premier class of motorsport for the time being. With General Motors, who would like to enter Formula 1 under the name Cadillac in 2026 as an eleventh team, a return for Perez could be in sight, which could be of interest to both the new team and sponsors.
